Edison Illuminating Co.
- In 1879 Henry Ford took his first job at the Michigan Car Company. The company located in Detroit dealt in manufacturing of railroad-cars.
- 1880- Ford worked as a machine apprentice and began work of a watch repairman in a shop in Detroit during extra hours.
- 1882-Ford worked on steam-driven farm machinery in the Dearborn area. Later, Westinghouse employed him to operate their steam engines.
- 1896- Ford had constructed his first horseless carriage which he sold in order to finance work on an improved model.
- 1893- Henry Ford began working at the Edison Illumination Company as a steam engineer eventually rising to chief engineer for this plant
- He built his first car the "Quadricycle" while he was employed there. He could have had a successful career in the electric power industry but left it in 1899 to try a new business of designing gasoline-powered automobiles.
